Friday

It’s Friday evening, and my son is back at my wife’s house. I’m still haven’t adjusted to being a part-time parent.

He let slip that tonight, they’re going to the house of a couple we’ve been friends with for years. Well, we're friends with. |My wife is now going there without me, as her life rolls on with me surgically removed from proceedings.

In a moment of weakness, I asked him who else was going. I don’t want to tap him up for information all the time, lest he become a pawn in his parents’ bullshit, but I was worried she’d be bringing along her new boyfriend to slot neatly into my place, my role, my life.
